Dynamic Simulation of Liquid Chillers

چکیده
The impact of refrigeration systems on the environment can be reduced by: a) the use of alternative refrigerants which are less harmful to the environment and b) the optimisation of systems and control strategies to deliver increased levels of energy efficiency_ Mathematical modelling offers the opportunity to test the performance of systems under different operating conditions and with alternative refrigerants. Dynamic models allow comparison of both transient and steady-state behaviour and this is of particular importance for liquid chillers since these systems can operate under transient conditions for long periods. This paper covers the development of a general dynamic model for the simulation of liquid chillers. The reasons for mathematical modelling are discussed and the paper includes brief descriptions of the system component models including a semi-hermetic reciprocating compressor and thermostatic expansion valve as well as a shell-and-tube evaporator and condenser. The integration of the component models into the overall solution for a vapour compression refrigeration system is illustrated. The paper demonstrates the application of the model to predict the steady-state and dynamic performance of water-to-water chillers under a number of different operating conditions_ Predicted results are compared to experimental data from a liquid chiller test rig to demonstrate the accuracy of the modeL

Modelling of In-Situ Liquid Chillers
This paper presents an overview of various simulation techniques that may be useful for predicting the in-situ (dynamic) performance of vapour-compression liquid chillers over a wide range of operating conditions. Four models were considered namely steady-state and transient physical models, and steady-state and transient neural network models. Typical real-time operating data taken under vario...

In this paper application of a simulation algorithm for dynamic and nonlinear analysis of a specific liquid propellant engine is presented. The mathematical model of the engine includes a set of nonlinear algebraic equations which is coupled with a set of time varying differential equations. In contrast to the existing liquid propellant simulation algorithms, the presented work does not depend ...
متن کاملA Moving-Boundary Model of a Centrifugal Chiller System
Dynamic models of liquid chillers are gaining importance in recent years as tools for evaluating feedback controllers and to study transient system performance in general. Such system models consist of component models for the heat-exchangers, the compressor and the expansion device. The modeling of the heat-exchangers is particularly significant as they constitute the largest thermal capacitan...

In this study, liquid-liquid extraction process in a Kuhni extraction column was modeled and simulated. A non-equilibrium dynamic model was developed for modeling liquid-liquid extraction processes based on a rate-based model. The model equations are inclusive of partial and ordinary differential equations which were discretized in column height direction. The population balance model was used ...
